The Saxonz & Nidjo
The Saxonz & Nidjo
First encounter
"The Saxonz" is made up of the most performance-orientated dancers in Saxony. At the beginning of 2013, three regional groups came together to form a dance crew in order to achieve national and international success together. After just twelve months, they secured a top position in the German breakdance landscape and were crowned unofficial German champions with two consecutive victories at the "Battle of the Year" in 2014 and 2015.
Despite their diverse personalities, all members are united by the same enthusiasm for dance, which is reflected in rousing choreographies and entertaining stage shows. Through collaborations with renowned institutions such as the Festspielhaus Hellerau, the Semperoper Dresden and the Dresden State Chancellery (client of the "So geht sächsisch" campaign), they have also made a name for themselves beyond the breakdance community. They also play a key role in shaping Saxony's urban dance scene with their own events such as the "Double D-Town Battle", the "XXL Training Session" and the "Dance Off".
In addition to their dance activities, they are also involved in working with young dancers and regularly run courses and workshops for children and young people. The combination of different dance styles enables "The Saxonz" to move between artistic dance theatre and competitive battles - always with impressive results. They received the Hanna Johannes Arras Foundation Art Prize for their work in 2016 and were honoured with the City of Dresden's Art and Culture Prize in 2023.
