The famous actor Bruscon is to perform his new comedy in a provincial inn. But he is by no means happy with this, as he constantly refers to being a former state actor. Bernhard's work about an ageing and irascible artist is both a homage and a reckoning with the theatre world. With dark humour and great depth of thought, it deals with themes such as the urge for recognition, the fear of growing old and the conflict with one's own standards.
